Shortbottom Distillates

Shortbottom Distillates

With the formation of "Shortbottom's Landing" in the mid '20s, an establishment, club and retreat for explorers and fellow Adventurers where they could share tales of discovery, danger and triumph, Doctor John Nedson Shortbottom III knew that his most dignified and polished patrons would require only the very best. As word of Shortbottom’s little retreat spread, it became an increasingly popular destination and a “must visit” for the Adventuring crowd. Over the years “Doc” has hosted members from such prestigious organizations such as SEA, JNC and Merriweather Pleasure’s Adventurer’s Club as well as countless Nobility and celebrity from around the world.

It was with this in mind that he sought out the very best distillers to take instruction from. Already a possessing seasoned pallet of fine and potent rums, he combined his newly acquired knowledge of the process of fine distillation and moved forward with plans to construct a small operation on the isle of Trinidad.

The Doctor, having visited this region several times had come across a certain Captain. Captain Jack Sparrow, a rum connoisseur with perhaps a less developed pallet, and with a cursed treasure of Aztec gold, was non the less familiar with the waters and isles of the Caribbean. The Doctor, having shared some of his cartography skills with the Captain, was owed a favor. And having someone like Captain Jack Sparrow as more of a friendly acquaintance versus a thieving scoundrel and rum thirsty pirate, which of course he is, seemed like a necessary relationship. While the distillates Doctor Shortbottom was soon to produce would be a bit more aristocratic than necessary for the likes of Sparrow, at least he should not be encumbered by the pirates less than legitimate operations in the area.

Shortbottom Distillates was formed, the finest cane sugars, molasses, waters, and yeast sourced and oak barrels constructed. Shortbottom knew that aging was perhaps the most significant aspect of the process, and that this simply could not be hastened. The fist elixir to be composed was a Navy Dark Rum. With plans to age this 12 years Doctor John Nedson Shortbottom III would have to find other adventures to occupy his time. Fortunately he became fascinated with the new and emerging technologies of the 20th century and took particular interest in photography, sound recording, radio and cinematography. Shortbottom also returned to piloting, acquiring a Grumman G-21. Having the ability and use of "Goose" as he often refers to it, greatly reduced travel time to adventurous parts of the globe.

As of this writing the first quantity of Shortbottom Distillates 12 Year Navy Dark Rum has made it's long journey via JNC from Trinidad in the Caribbean, across the South Atlantic, around the Cape of Good Hope, through the Indian Ocean, Timor Sea, Coral Sea and then south towards New Zealand arriving on the docks of the Jungle Navigation Company. From here to be dispatched to the Island of Ehrlich and the drinkery of Shortbottom’s Landing.

The good Doctor assures Commander Youngington that should this first shipment meet his highest expectations, he will personally see to it that a quantity be dispatched to the TL Tiki.
